EHS Pilates resides in the old Greenblatt Metal Shop, a barn-like building in the heart of the mission. EHS has two full floors; a fully equipped mat and springboard room downstairs and a private rehabilitation room in the back, as well as retail offering Pilates props, shoes, books and DVDs to supplement home programs, and upstairs houses the sunny and gorgeous fully equipped Pilates apparatus room and Wellness Clinic which offers options to meet every "body's" needs with beautiful bamboo floors and as many windows as law would allow for to create a bright warm atmosphere.
EHS has a fantastic staff of experienced and committed Pilates and rehabilitation specialists. The atmosphere is bright and sunny; a place where people can share their knowledge and learn from each other.
Ellie Herman Studios has been a San Francisco Mission establishment since 1993. It all started in the “Old Sears Building” on the former Army Street. With only a second-hand gymnastic mat and a reformer, Ellie opened up shop. After a few years, Ellie accumulated more equipment and decided to offer teacher trainings. Being immersed in the dance community for years, Ellie recruited mostly professional modern dancers to her initial teacher trainings. To this day, the lion’s share of EHS teaching staff is working modern dancers who teach Pilates to support their art (fortunately dancers make excellent Pilates trainers). Ellie moved in 2005 to Brooklyn and opened a studio in the heart of Park Slope.
