Sharon Gallagher

Certified Pilates Teacher, Rehabilitation Specialist, Bodyworker

Sharon’s college dance teacher, Cecilia Marie-Bowman and Jeff Smith, who were also both Feldenkrais practitioners, first introduced her to Pilates in 1989. She completed her BA in Politics in1992 from USF, and continued her dance training in various styles. Her next encounter with Pilates was while going through Physical Therapy for chronic knee pain in 1995. Shortly after, she went to work for Edie Murphy, PT and Aston-Patterner, who also used a Pilates Reformer with clients. Sharon wanted to pursue her passion for dance and left Edie’s office to teach Cardio Dance Classes at Rhythm and Motion and to teach dance to children (k through 5) at various public schools in SF. She injured her ankle and foot while teaching at Rhythm and Motion, which led her to pursue her interest in Pilates. While becoming certified through the Ellie Herman Studios, Sharon took a year away from dance to heal her foot. Also during her certification, Sharon studied the rehabilitative work of Vladimir Janda, MD and Karl Lewitt with Jayne Edwards. When she returned to dance, she felt that the Pilates and Rehab training had made her a much stronger and more informed dancer. She continues her study of dance, yoga, healing, and bodywork and currently dances for Printz Dance Project and Passionflower Project. (which she directs). She is also Head of Continuing Education at the Ellie Herman Studios.
